Back pain is one of the most common reasons that Canadians visit their doctors. Four out of five Canadians experience back pain at some point in their lives.

When they do so, it’s likely that they’ll be recommended rest and/or pain medication. Few seem to be recommended exercise. It’s important to seek medical advice about your condition (as back pain can be related to other conditions) but there is good evidence to suggest that osteogenic loading exercises can progressively improve some instances of back and joint pain.

This is in addition to the other health benefits it brings like improved bone density, posture and balance.


What causes back
or joint pain?

Back and joint pain can have many causes and it is important to seek a proper diagnosis before engaging in any treatment. However, even with a doctor’s intervention, the underlying cause may go undiagnosed. Back or joint pain may be due to:

  • Weakened bones or joints
  • Weakened muscles
  • Osteoporosis
  • Trauma
  • Injuries like muscle or ligament strains
  • Diseases like arthritis
  • Bulging or ruptured vertebral discs
  • Skeletal irregularities

It’s important for people with back or joint pain to note that when it results from weakened bones, muscles, or osteoporosis (caused by low bone mineral density) the condition can be reversed by focusing on strengthening the musculoskeletal system.
